Azusa
Azusa is private and beautiful city located in Los Angeles County. At the time of the 2010 census the city’s population was 46,422, up from 45,023 in 2000 census. Though sometimes it is assumed Azusa got its name as a contraction of the phrase "everything from A to Z in the USA", part of an old Jack Benny joke. The city’s name Azusa actually traces back to the 18th century. It originally was a reference to the San Gabriel Valley and river region, and comes from the Tongva Native American tribe’s name for the region, Asuksagna. The city was founded in 1887, and was officially incorporated as a city in 1898. It is located 28 miles north east of Los Angeles, next to the San Gabriel foothills. Azusa covers 10 square miles. The city’s educational facilities include nine public elementary and middle schools, two public high schools, as well as one private school. It is also home to a private university, Azusa Pacific University, which was named by the US News & World Report as one of the best colleges for 2010. As of the 2010 census, 42 percent of the residents of Azusa are married. Many of the city’s homes host to large families. Also the median income of the city was $43,863., and 51 percent of houses are owned, and not rented. Azusa is very close to both rural and urban locales. The many valleys and canyons north of the city are used for hiking, camping and other outdoor recreations. Los Angeles is to west of Azusa and is home to MLB, NHL and NBA teams with the Dodgers, Kings, Lakers and Clippers. Anaheim, located to the south of Azusa, is where the Angels of the MLB and Ducks of the NHL make their homes.
